Forrest Research Foundation Fellowship applications now open

Applications for the 2020 Forrest Research Foundation Fellowship program are now open.  The fellowships are available to outstanding Australian and international early-career researchers, who wish to pursue their post-doctoral study in any discipline at one of Western Australia’s five universities. The Forrest Research Foundation supports researchers to bring their talents and knowledge from around the world to WA.

Professor Paul Johnson, Warden of the Forrest Research Foundation, is looking forward to the 2020 program.

”We are keen to receive applications from junior researchers who are already recognised as intellectual leaders in their fields, and who want to build on the outstanding research achievements of Western Australian universities,” Professor Johnson said.

Forrest Fellows provide leadership and valuable mentorship to Forrest Scholars who are studying towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) qualification. Forrest Fellows and Scholars reside at Forrest Hall, a state-of-the-art accommodation and research facility purpose built by the Forrest Research Foundation.

Aiming to attract the brightest international minds, the program covers all relocation costs and travel expenses in addition to salary and accommodation allowance. To be eligible, applicants must be endorsed by the chancellor at their current university and meet the selection criteria outlined in the application process.

Through the Minderoo Foundation, Andrew and Nicola Forrest have committed $130 million to the program so far. The funds are being used to drive innovation in Western Australia by inviting outstanding young intellects from around the world to conduct their research at either the University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, Curtin University, Edith Cowan University or University of Notre Dame.

The first Forrest fellows were announced in 2017 in the fields of evolutionary biology, bioinformatics and psychology with the program expanding in 2018 to include marine science, astrophysics and organic chemistry. Applications for the annual program close on the 20th of May 2019, with successful candidates commencing in the 2020 calendar year.
