A landmark report has found that nearly every woman experiences abuse on dating apps.

The report by the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT) was based on a survey of 1,008 heterosexual women in Australia who had used a dating platform over a three-month period at the end of 2025.

Of those surveyed, ninety-nine per cent experienced at least one form of tech-facilitated abuse (TFGBV) in that period, including love bombing, negging, gaslighting, unsolicited sexually explicit messages and financial abuse.

The report also found that platform design is failing to prevent harm and, in some cases, enabling it. Features like activity indicators and unsolicited messaging give perpetrators tools to monitor, pressure and intrude.

Landing at a critical moment for online safety reform, the research has produced two practical tools to help platforms and regulators better understand, measure and address these harms.

Building on these findings, Minderoo is calling for four measures to be considered in the proposed Digital Duty of Care reforms and in the development of the Second Action Plan to help prevent technology-facilitated gender-based violence and strengthen protections for people online.
