Statement from Dr Andrew Forrest AO on developments in Gaza
I welcome the progress being made under the US-led peace plan for Gaza; including the agreement for the release of hostages and the return of remains.
It is now essential for all parties to honour the terms of the ceasefire; including Israel’s obligations to facilitate the entry of humanitarian assistance adequate to meet the enormous need required.
These steps, and the clear political leadership behind them, are essential to ending the bloodshed and alleviating suffering in Gaza.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains catastrophic. Civilians continue to face starvation, disease, and displacement. The delivery of food, water, medical supplies, and shelter must be massively scaled up and sustained.
Minderoo Foundation stands with the people of Gaza. Since 2023, we have committed over US$28 million to support lifesaving work by United Nations agencies and NGOs working consistently across the crisis.
We continue to recognise the vital work of the United Nations, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and humanitarian organisations that, with courage and commitment, uphold humanitarian principles on the ground.
We remain resolutely committed to playing our part to support this essential humanitarian response and call upon governments, institutions, and citizens of conscience everywhere to join us in doing more.
Now is the time to act and deliver aid at the scale this crisis demands.
