Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced at an event in Melbourne on 20 June the naming of the new Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre.

The $152.4 million project on St Kilda Road, which backs onto the hospital, is set to be completed in early-2024 thanks to support from the Fox Family Foundation, Minderoo Foundation, The Alfred Foundation and Monash University.

It will see leading skin cancer specialists and dedicated multi-disciplinary teams working together under one roof, enabling skin cancer patients to access their care in one purpose-built centre.

As part of Minderoo Foundation’s $10 million investment, we will support the establishment of the Minderoo Centre for Advanced Diagnostics and Telehealth, a purpose-built facility to accelerate research and discovery using artificial intelligence and machine learning to improve the screening, diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers and melanomas across Australia.

We will also establish a world-leading Wellness and Education Centre within the building to support patients and their families along their journey and provide them with complementary knowledge and most importantly, the holistic support they need.

Minderoo Foundation Chairman, Dr Andrew Forrest AO, and Co-Chair, Nicola Forrest AO, said the foundation has a strong belief in the power of philanthropic donations working alongside government funding and the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre demonstrates that beautifully.

“It brings us enormous pride to stand alongside our dear friends, Lindsay and Paula Fox, in turning this incredible vision into a reality and in uniting efforts into what will be a life changing place for so many Australians,” said Dr Forrest.

“Minderoo Foundation is proud to also establish a world-leading Wellness and Education Centre within the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre building to support patients and their families along their journey and provide them with complementary knowledge and most importantly, the holistic support they need,” said Nicola Forrest.

The centre, which will also be home to the Australia Clinical Trials Hub, is supported by the state and federal governments, the Fox Family, Minderoo Foundation, Monash University and other generous supporters.

It is named after key philanthropist Paula Fox, whose personal commitment to melanoma research and treatment has helped make this vision a reality.
