The movie: The Merger

A funny, feel-good movie about the Bodgy Creek ‘Roosters,’ a failing footy club which decides to team up with local refugees and ends up winning more than just a game.

Bodgy Creek is a struggling town. The drought won’t let up, jobs are scarce after the mill was shut down and the local AFL team looks like it will have to merge with another club or fold. To help, new arrivals from the nearby refugee support centre are recruited to save the team. But is it more change than some residents of Bodgy Creek are willing to take?

The screening

Join Minderoo Foundation for this very special event as we shine a light on refugee stories with a new Australian comedy/drama. The Merger will be screened in the beautiful old theatre at the Sunset Heritage Precinct in Dalkeith. This is a rare opportunity to watch a film in a historic building that, until recently, was seldom open to the public.

An introduction to the film will be provided by Minderoo Foundation director and co-founder, Nicola Forrest.

Come down early and enjoy the location, some delicious food from the EAT NO EVIL. food truck and a pop up Gin Bar featuring locally produced Tattarang Springs Distilling Co. Don’t forget your gold coin donations for popcorn and chocolate!

Parking is available at the site. Keep an eye on the Minderoo Foundation Facebook page for any further updates.

100 per cent of ticket sales and event proceeds will be donated to local refugee support groups: CARAD  (Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees) and Swim for Refugees, a Student for Refugees initiative at UWA.

*This event was initially planned for March, but was rescheduled due to bad weather. Now that we’ve moved indoors to Sunset Theatre, the screening will go ahead rain, hail or shine!
