Can I apply for both an Artist Fund grant and the Margaret River residency?
Yes, however each application must be for a different project.
Can I apply if I have been supported by Minderoo Foundation before?
Yes, however the application must be for a different project.
Do the participants all need to be artists?
The residency is intended to facilitate an artist collaborating with other artists in the making of art. In line with Minderoo Foundation’s charitable purpose and initiatives, we might consider participants who are invested in research, education or science projects that are of community benefit.
Can I apply on behalf of an organisation?
No, applications are open to individuals only as part of a group collaboration.
Can I apply if I live outside Western Australia?
This residency is offered to WA residents only.
Can I apply if the main project outcome will be launched elsewhere and not in Western Australia?
Yes, however the project should also include a local outcome.
What does any art form mean? What art forms do you support?
Any art form means that if you consider yourself an artist, we support that practice. A non-exhaustive list of art forms we support includes visual arts, digital arts, writing, dance, theatre, puppetry, sculpture, photography, contemporary music, classical music, film and multi-disciplinary forms.
Does the collaboration include only one type of art form?
No, your Collaboration can include several different art forms.
How does the fund define mid-career?
Although the fund is interested in how an artist defines their own career stage, the artist must have maintained an independent professional practice for at least 10 years. The fund is looking to support artists who are significantly invested in their long-term artistic career.
What is the value of the family support payment?
Selected artists who are also considered by Minderoo to be a primary carer will be eligible for an additional $2,500. Please note, to access this contribution additional criteria will need to be satisfied.
What is the value of the documentation contribution?
The Collaboration will be paid a total value of $2,000 towards professional documentation of their project. This will be divided equally and paid to each participating artist as a pro rata fee (artist numbers dependent).
Can fewer than four artists participate in the residency?
Yes, minimum of two artists, a maximum of four.
Can I bring my partner and/or children?
No, the intention of the residency is to allow a focused period of work on a creative project away from familiar routines. If your partner is an artist and is involved in the project, we may consider this arrangement.
Are pets welcome?
No.
Can my project include professional development outcomes?
We support learning through the delivery of the project. However, residencies cannot be used for formal professional development or training. It can support informal professional development like a mentor/mentee collaboration, workshops or activations with the public.
Can we organise activities related to our project outcomes during the residency?
During your residency, community engagement with arts and cultural opportunities or activities related to your project outcomes can be negotiated. The external amenities and grounds at Cape Lodge may be activated as part of your collaboration but it is not a requirement. The internal amenities/house are strictly out of bounds for the public as we want you to consider it as your home.
Can I apply for the residency if I live in, or close to Margaret River?
Yes.
Can we change the residency’s availability dates?
No, the dates are set for this four-week period.
Who decides on the successful application?
Your application will be assessed by a panel of industry peers and advisors.
Will I receive feedback if I am not selected?
No, we are not able to provide feedback to applicants who are not selected.
Can I submit my EOI or application in another way or in another language?
We welcome alternative submissions for those who require alternative access. Please contact us if you have a request for submitting your EOI or application in another way.
